According to the Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, despite difficulties due to the pandemic, cooperation in agriculture between the two sides still achieved remarkable results. In particular, Vietnamese companies investing in rubber plantations in Cambodia have harvested latex on an area of 100,000 hectares, with an export value of about 200 million USD in the first 11 months of 2021.
“The rubber plantation has created jobs for about 33,000 local workers. Along with that, Vietnamese fruit companies also contribute more than 50% of Cambodia’s banana export value, creating jobs for about 14,000 workers,” said the Cambodian minister.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh highly appreciated the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia in the field of agriculture, import and export of agricultural products. In which, Vietnam is the largest importer out of 90 countries importing agricultural goods from Cambodia.
According to Mr. Le Quoc Doanh, the Vietnamese side wishes to accelerate the implementation of cooperation projects in the fields of agriculture and aquaculture with Cambodia.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed to step up cooperation in agriculture, forestry and fishery; strengthen control of timber import and export activities; prevention and control of diseases on plants and animals; Technical training for several collaborative projects. Representatives of the two ministries also agreed to propose a number of cooperation agreements on agriculture and fisheries between the two Governments in the coming time.
